Name of El Paso County sheriff's deputy to be added at National Law Enforcement Memorial

A deputy killed in the line of duty will have his name displayed on the National Law Enforcement Memorial. The Texas Ford Dealers donated $25,000 to Sheriff Richard Wiles and the Sheriff’s Office Foundation to show their support of local law enforcement on Monday. Deputy Peter Herrera died in the hospital March 24, 2019, following a shooting during a traffic stop in San Elizario.

January 27, 2020 -- Friday, January 31, 2020, marks the 20 Year Anniversary of the Alaska Airlines Flight 261 accident. The accident occurred at approximately 4:22 pm off the southern California coast, just north of Los Angeles, where 88 people lost their lives. Almost half of those on board were non-revenue passengers that were connected with Alaska Air Group, with Alaska Airlines or Horizon Air.

On Sunday, January 19th, Teamsters Local 179 members at Waste Managment overwhelmingly ratified a new three-year collective bargaining agreement. The new agreement includes wage increases each year as well as insurance modifications that increase Waste Management's contributions to the Teamster health insurance plan.  The change significantly reduces the out-of-pocket paid by members.
