Hawkeye District now has 3 positive Covid-19 cases reported (Keosauqua, Clinton, South DSM), one has returned to work.
South DSM case was reported Saturday. The T6 was quarantined, the area was disinfected over the weekend. Some concern that management did not tell employees until Monday; they gave them masks and told them they were required but failed to tell them why. Service talk was held Monday morning but neither the APWU nor NALC presidents were invited by management. Both were in attendance as they’d heard from other employees.
To avoid clerk OT, management is assigning carriers to throw mail, which is resulting in overcrowding and violation of social distance policy. File a PS Form 1767 if management refuses to address this!
Phil Thomas from Omaha discussed possibility of contracting out cleaning of positive Covid-19 facilities to Hazmat teams in response to National’s position that custodians don’t have to clean Covid-19 if they choose not to.
We’re tracking the details of the South DSM positive case. Carrier and wife are doing well.
Discussion on the Maintenance Update on Response Kit that came out today.
Clinton local President satisfied with management’s response to positive Covid-19 case.
Discussion on Covid-19 impact on box section and the idea of carriers depositing that mail to reduce possibility of exposure to contamination.
Management still does not know how to code the FFCRA (Families First Coronavirus Response Act) leave and many are threatening employees with discipline for using leave.
Text USPS to 50409 and you’ll be prompted to support the USPS by signing a letter
Concern that pallets of unlabeled Covid-19 supplies are being pushed aside and delayed (NDC). Fork lift drivers are doing a good job to identify the pallets.
Discussion on proper way to disseminate PPE, such as masks. Some places have employees or management reaching their hands in boxes, which compromises sterility. To address this, the Des Moines P&DC is storing individual masks in paper bags for disbursement.
Discussion on making safety masks mandatory for a set amount of time (14 days?) – M Bates to address with District management
