Dear APWU Family,
As we approach the expiration of our collective bargaining agreement on September 20th, I want to update you on the progress of our contract negotiations. Our team has been working tirelessly to secure the strong new contract you deserve, and we remain fully committed to delivering a contract that benefits all postal workers.
Led by Industrial Relations Director Charlie Cash, our negotiating team has been steadfast in presenting proposals that prioritize the issues most important to our members. So far, we’ve introduced around 80 proposals. In contrast, management has only presented 11 proposals.
Proposals presented by your bargaining team have addressed crucial issues such as:
- Transitioning to an all-career workforce
- Addressing the inequities caused by the multi-tier wage system
- Improving safety conditions in the workplace
- Enhancing staffing levels and ensuring job security
Starting this weekend, we’ll be entering an intensive seven-day negotiation session with postal management. While it’s possible that talks may extend beyond the September 20th contract expiration, your rights under the current agreement will remain fully in place. We are determined to make progress and will continue working until we achieve the contract you deserve.
We encourage you to show your support by proudly wearing your union gear and demonstrating our unity to management. A united front sends a clear message that we stand together in our demand for a contract that respects and rewards postal workers for our dedication and hard work.
Additionally, we are once again posting updates on our toll-free hotline:
‪(202) 642-9049‬
After each message, we’ll also be collecting voicemails if you would like to leave words of encouragement for, and solidarity with, your bargaining team.
Stay connected with updates via APWU.org, our social media channels, and the hotline. Together, we will continue to fight for a fair and just contract.
In solidarity,
Mark Dimondstein
President, APWU
